Commemorative Plaque

In amongst the Purton Hulks, you come across this plaque commemorating the disaster that took down two spans of the Severn Railway bridge in 1960, after one of the supports was hit by two barges in thick fog and destroyed.

The bridge would have crossed the river behind the stone and would have been visible in the background if it were still standing today. It was demolished in the 1970’s.
