Purton Revisited V
From this shot, you can see how effective the beaching of the hulks actually was. The River Severn would have reached where I was standing at the time the barges were beached. Now, it is a fair distance away. Directly behind and above me is the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, which was in danger of being breached by the river as it encroached the east bank. The canal is no longer in danger.
