Metal Cut-Outs

Diglis Figures

You can find these life size metal cut-outs near Diglis footbridge in Worcester. The way to photograph them for maximum impact is to get low down – which is exactly what I did.

The cyclist is Olympic gold medal winner Ernest Payne, and he is accompanied by the founder of the British Medical Association, Sir Charles Hastings. They are flanked by two civil war soldiers, representing the Battle of Worcester in 1651, the final battle of the English Civil War.

Photography stuff: 12-24mm lens at 13mm, 1/100 sec at F/10, with the photographer taking up a rather unnatural crouched position to get an image from this low down (my next camera will have a fold-out viewscreen!)
