The end of the day at Kinwarton dovecote, the sun has just set, and the cows are heading home. You could not ask for a more peaceful, rural scene. OK, they’re calves actually, not cows, but that ruins the title!

Kinwarton dovecote dates from the 14th century, and is one of those old buildings that I love, because it is still serving it’s original purpose 700 years on. They don’t make ’em like they used to!

I had to go HDR – exposing for the sky, which was still bright, left the dovecote as a silhouette. Exposing for the land left a completely blown out sky. A mid exposure with filters was unsatisfactory – 5 stops difference between the land and the sky – ouch! So HDR it was.

Photography stuff: 18-70mm lens at 18mm, 5 exposures of 1/1250 sec, 1/640 sec, 1/320 sec, 1/160 sec, and 1/80 sec at f/8.0, tripod, blended in NIK HDR EFX Pro 2
