Waterfall Side View
Photographing the Sgwd Yr Eira waterfall from the side represents an interesting photographic challenge. The rock face behind the waterfall is in deep shadow, and is at least 3 stops darker than the gorge in which the waterfall sits (never mind the bright white of the falls itself). I solved this particular conundrum by using a 3 stop hard graduated ND filter on it’s side, effectively cutting the frame in two vertically. This allowed me to expose for the rock face and get an even exposure across the image. A little tweaking in Lightroom to even out the exposure for the rocks in the foreground, and job’s a good ‘un, as they say.
Photography stuff: 12-24mm kens at 12mm, 5 seconds at f/22, tripod, 3 stop hard graduated ND filter.
